Casting Call Auditions
Auditions are a major part of show business and if you aspire to be a singer or actor you will have to prepare yourself for open casting calls and auditions that are held for different roles. An audition is usually held by talent scouts, directors and agents who are looking to fill a role in a commercial, TV show or film. Auditions can also be held for singing parts in commercials and theatre productions. Though the roles will vary auditions are typically the same; you will get a brief window to showcase your talents and then wait for a call back.
Even actors at the top of the box office earnings list still have to audition for parts in upcoming movies. No one in show business is granted a free pass and though certain actors are asked to audition for specific roles there is no guarantee they will get the part. A film could be written with an entire cast in mind but this doesn't mean any of those people will get a part in the film. Everyone has to go through the audition process and even if you have an Oscar on your resume the process is still the same. Many actors are looking for parts in upcoming movies and the competition for even small roles will be intense.
A typical audition will consist of handing out your resume and head shot to the directors and agents holding the audition, waiting with many others for your name to be called and then using the brief time allotted to impress the directors with your abilities. You may be given a specific part to read for or asked to improvise and either make up scene or recall one from another performance. Many
auditions
will alert people in advance what the role is for and how to prepare but others won't give much detail and you have to be ready for anything when taking the stage. Being versatile and able to adapt on the go is very helpful for actors who are just starting out since directors won't know much about them and will want to get a good sense of what they are capable of.
